About me

Saúl Ornelas

I am a Graphic Designer, graduated from the School of Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha, and I am currently finishing a Master’s degree in Communication Design at ESAD in Matosinhos.
I take part in various freelance projects, developing graphic materials such as posters, flyers, merchandising, visual identities, and brand communication strategies.
I was part of the Iminente team as a graphic designer, contributing to the 2021 to 2023 editions, where I strengthened my design skills and gained experience in production.
In 2024, I joined the Bons Sons festival team, providing design support, adapting the identity, and developing new materials. This year, I was invited again to join the team as a designer.
More recently, I joined the communication team at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, developing graphic materials for Gulbenkian Música and supporting both internal and external projects.
Currently, I continue to develop projects independently.

What is this website?

Process playground

This website is like a playground for me. It is where I experiment, publish projects, and explore ideas. It is an ongoing work in progress and a learning journey, where I develop the website as I create new work.

I have a strong interest in the process of making things, in this case, design. For me, the process is the hidden gem of a project, something invisible that exists behind the curtain. Designers do not usually share the full process behind their work, including sketches, references, changes, unexpected issues, and iterations. For me, showing this can add real value to a project, especially nowadays with AI.

A project does not need to have a complex or extensive process. Every project is different, and being able to see how each one evolves and takes shape is something I find genuinely meaningful.

By sharing the process, I aim to create a more transparent and meaningful approach to design.
